Greetings from another day in St. Louis, MO…

Quick posting this evening…

One of the things about leaving current job is that I have to pack up all the stuff at my cube - lots of books, coffee cups, spare cables and etc.

Went out to lunch with one of the end users I’ve been working with for the past few months. They had a database that their department uses to record their weekly time sheets that I did an overhaul on….. they are very happy with the changes and it is now working well for them. Went to a little Chinese restaurant close to work. I had a plate of brown rice and curry chicken. It was OK – did not eat it all.. got really full…. It was nice to chat with coworker away from the corporate setting…

John has been busy with his job and stuff around the RV park. He might be going to Milwaukee to work “in-house” at the trucking company to help the owner out for several weeks to a month – not 100% for sure yet – he’s still working out details and etc. The big questions about this is if I will have a job by the end of the month and where the job will be. Worst that may happen is that we will be apart for a few weeks… Knowing that we have some additional income coming in for a month would be a good thing…

The new WiFi system at the park is up and running. John has been helping the wifi company with testing and promotion of the service. They are sending some posters and brochures. So far the service has been running reliably and have not heard of any complaints. It is nice to have it going before “amateur camping season” starts….

I had several calls from different recruiters this morning. The cool part about these calls is that they were for positions that I did not apply for – they found my resume online at various job sites. It’s good to know that my resume is being found and noticed. I have a phone interview tomorrow morning at 8:00 am with a company in Milwaukee – so hoping for the best….. Resume was also submitted to several other companies – some in the Milwaukee area and some in the St. Louis area. What is happening is that recruiters pick up on my 414 area code and Wisconsin zip code and assume I only want to work in Wisconsin. The job sites don’t do a very good job of letting you specify that you will work almost anywhere in the US….. Best I can usually do is mention it in cover letters and etc….

Once I get the next job and things are good financially – I’ve decided that I would like to get an Apple iPad. I’ve been wanting an iPad for some time now, but I kept thinking – “do I really need this and how would it fit into my current computing setup”. I’ve figured out that it will be a good fit for two main reasons: ebooks and having a second screen. Right now I have a collection of large computer books that I take with me from job to job – would like to replace these with e-books. I could purchase and view the e-books on my MacBook Pro or my iPhone, but the iPad’s larger screen and touch interface would be better. I recently purchased the Head First book about iPod development ebook and when reading it and working through exercises I want to have the book in front of me while I work on the computer – instead of having to flip between the ebook reader software and development software. I could just purchase a LCD monitor and connect it to my laptop, but the issue with that is portability. My desk is the kitchen table and I’m always setting up and taking down my computer setup. Then what do I do with the screen – don’t have room to store it anywhere in the MoHo. The iPad would become my second screen – letting me have a way to browse websites and have ebook content in front of me. It is still a toy for me, but it does fill a real need…

Not much else going on… watched the American Idol result show – no surprises there – the girl who was voted off had the “I don’t really know who I am” problem and her performances were boring…. Prince is being a little shit this evening – keeps wanting to lay on John’s desk or his keyboard. It’s not like he does not get enough attention… I’m going to spend some time brushing him out…. he likes that….
