Greetings from a dreary Sunday in St. Louis….

It has been raining all day with temps in the low 40’s. At least it is not snow, but it still a good day to stay inside…

The guitar player in the basement of Iron Barley - his name is Bob Camp and did covers of Bob Dylan, Beatles, Doors and etc. He was fun to listen to....

Last evening we went out for supper with neighbors John and Glenna. We went to Iron Barley – it is a small neighborhood bar with good upscale food. I was there before with the gay supper club – so knew it was good. We ended up dining downstairs in the basement – it is an eclectic area that is a bit rough around the edges, but it worked out well. We were seated up front by a guy playing guitar and singing in the corner. Glenna likes to go to small – one of a kind places to dine and this place fit the bill.. I had a dish with chicken breasts, several types of mushooms and risotto.. it was delish! Both Johns had smoked pork chops. They liked them, but said they were a tad dry. I had a bit of John’s and it had a nice smoky flavor.

After supper we were not ready to head home, so we all headed over to the Rehab bar. The bar was not too busy – so we were able to get a table right away. We had a few rounds of beers while swapping stories about traveling around the country. John is from Australia and has traveled to many European countries – so it was neat hearing about their adventures. We made it home by 10:00pm.

Green Acres...

This morning we meet Rich S. and Rich A. for breakfast at Chris’s. Rich S. was in a good mood – he told us about how he is going to move to a farm his boyfriend is purchasing a few hours away from St. Louis. It is just like Green Acres when Mrs. Douglas moves to Hooterville 😉

I spent the remainder of the day going through “Tomcat 6 Developers Guide” book to brush up on Java development skills – like servlets, web services and JSP web pages. It is interesting but slow going…

We plan on leaving St. Louis for Milwaukee on the 31st. John will leave right away in the morning and then I will drive up after work. Have also been thinking about stopping and seeing my parents in Thomson, IL for a few days and then joining John in Milwaukee on Saturday or Sunday… will see… John thinks it will take him around 8 hours to do the 380 mile trip – factoring in fuel stops and etc.

John found a trailer park in Cudahy, WI (southern suburb of Milwaukee) that we are planning to stay at. It has grass, trees and large cement patios – so a step up from parking lot living. Another bonus is that we can have DSL internet service installed. We were quoted a rate of $410 a month + electricity – so it is much more reasonable to the State Fair Park RV parking lot… It is a few blocks away from Lake Michigan, so we should get a nice cool breeze most of the summer. We’ve checked it out on Google Maps and street view and it looks decent. John spoke to the manager of the RV park and he said it was a good neighborhood, have not had any problems and it is safe to walk around and etc. It is close to the public library and the 104 mile long Oak Leaf Bike trail. Trailer parks have been hit and miss for us, so we will see how this one works out for us… I’m hoping for the best…

I still do not have a written job offer – just confirmation over the phone. I was told that an offer in writing will be emailed to me on Monday – so right now I’m 99% sure that I will be offered the Java programming job with a major financial institution in the Milwaukee area – but you never know…

Not much else going one… going to study some more Java this evening and get prepared for the upcoming work week.
