Greetings from a cold windy evening in Milwaukee…

It’s been raining on and off all day… the gray skies have been making me tired – I miss sunlight…

It will be a quick posting tonight…

I spent the evening getting the interior of the motor home ready for our trip to Dayton, OH tomorrow for the Hamvention. The drive is expected to take around 7 hours. The current plan is to leave Milwaukee by around 9:00am, but that will depend on what time John is able to get done at work and how much time he needs to sleep. Don’t want a tired driver….. If he does get tired during the drive, we can just pull over to a rest stop or truck stop for him to take a nap.

I’m looking forward to the Hamvention. I’ve checked out the schedule and identified some sessions that I want to attend. I’m all looking forward to checking out the “tailgating” section where other hams sell old equipment, computers, antennas, vintage radios and lots of misc “junque”. I’m hoping to find a cool old computer – something that will make John ask me “Why did you buy that piece of junk… hope you did not pay much for it…” Would like to find an old CP/M computer or an old DOS laptop – something like a Toshiba T1000 or an IBM PC Convertable….

The Hamvention should be an interesting place for “people watching” – it is interesting to see the outfits some of the older hams wear – you see fashions that have not seen the light of day for 20 years… I also hope most of the hams at the convention grasp the concept of personal hygiene and don’t stink. Stinky hammie’s is something we run into at many of the smaller hamfests… 🙁 So I hope the Hamvention will not be a combination of The Love Boat and Sanford and Son…. 🙂 I assume it will not be…. but will have my camera ready just in case… it’s part of the fun 😉

Anyway… The only Internet access we will have on the road is our iPhone – then we will be at the mercy of the campground’s WiFi in Ohio. Hope I don’t need to do blog posting from iPhone – but will if needed…

I found something cool on the Internet this week… You can view every issue of Popular Science Magazine since 1926 on Google Books. It is really neat checking them out… So far I checked out all of the 1926 issues and I’m working my way through the 1927 issues… lots of articles and advertisement for radios. Check it out with this link

That’s it for tonight… heading to bed… big day tomorrow…
