Greetings from Milwaukee…

We made it back to the State Fair RV park by 7:00pm and have everything setup by 7:40pm. The trip back was rainy and we hit some heavy traffic going through Chicago. When we headed North the rain stopped after we made it past downtown Chicago. So we made it back safe and sound and no mechanical problems that we know of…

Some updates on things I mentioned in the past few postings. The Yaesu radio that John dumped Walmart diet iced tea on is now fully functional. Good thing it was diet – so no sugar only evil brain rotting chemicals. The Jeep is also now fully functional. John called the dealership in Richmond, IN (10 miles away from the campground in New Paris, OH) at 10:30am today and the part came in, they installed it, the problem has been fixed and the repair bill was $0.00. This repair fell under the Federal Clean Air act and the vehicle computer was replaced for free to us.. I don’t exactly understand how the program works but I assume the computer controls the emission system so the Federal Government wants to make sure it continues to work for consumers for so many years…. We were concerned that we might be sitting around waiting for Jeep to get fixed and get a really late start today – glad that did not occur… John would have had to get his “Ginger Dander” up to get it completed sooner then later at the dealership….. 😉

The Hamvention was lots of fun. We spent all day Saturday walking through the tailgating section looking at all the used stuff for sale, and inside the Harra Exhibition Halls at the vendors showing the latest and greatest in ham radio gear, antennas and etc…. The weather fully cooperated – no rain during the fest and it was warm and sunny. Then Saturday evening we meet up with the RARA group in their hospitality room for the annual business meeting. It was nice to meet more of the RARA group in person. After the meeting we then headed over to a local Italian restaurant for supper together… It ended up being a long day for us, especially with an hour drive back to the camp ground.

Old AT&T service van that is now owned by a 2600 Hacker... kinda funny.... in a geeky hammy-sexual sorta way....

Here’s some pictures I took the last few days:

Military Transoceanic radio made for the military - in nice condition..... Derek wanted but did not want to spend $1300 on it.....

Quick pic I took during the RARA business meeting... Covert top secret, decoder badge stuff were discussed..... :)

Old Western Union telegraph equipment setup in a working display.... was neat to hear it working - a very distinctive sound....

The MoHo at the Natural Springs Campground in New Paris, OH along with the Ford Fusion rental car. Car was nothing special, but at least it worked....

The road out of New Paris as we were heading home. The author of the Christmas song "Up On The Housetop" lived in New Paris when we wrote it... The historical marker said so... so it must be true.....

Heading close to downtown Chicago....

Nasty Chicago traffic... It did not last too long - we've been through much worse...... John was not impressed with motorists who would cut right in front of us and then slow down.... It's not like we can stop on a dime.... probably more like a silver dollar...... At least Chicago traffic tends to use turn signals and lets you change lanes when you signal to do so.....

So tomorrow we get back to our jobs and back to our regular routines. The first day back after taking vacation is usually not much fun… lots of emails and stuff to take care of…. Plus need to get back to diet… I was a bit of a bad boy during the trip… I did make some healthy choices, but also had some very naughty foods… Afraid to step on the scale in the morning…. 🙁
