Greetings from Portland…

The weather over the weekend was great – sunny and warm, but the last few days has been back to being overcast, cool and damp.  The forcast is calling for things to improve for the weekend.

Just got back from working at the food bank garden at work.  Main task was to shorten the rows of compost so we can easily walk along the perimeter.  Was easy enough to do with a flat shovel (spade?) but did not have anything to put the dirt in – so had to carry each shovel full to appropriate spot…  no big deal…

Some of the seeds we planted last week have started to sprout – mainly beans, zuchinni and cucumbers.

Believe this is a zucchini coming up...

Tomorrow we will be planting peppers, tomatoes and tomatillos.  The growing season here is a bit odd…  Seems like they plant things much later then in the midwest, but then it grows later – until mid November… usually… they say…  In a month or so they will be planting cabbage and other “cool crops”…

On Monday evening had ice skating lessons.  The group is working on lots of different backwards skating techniques.  I have most of them down ok, but still not doing backwards crossovers very well – need to keep practicing…

John is not feeling too good this evening… has the ‘I feel kinda icky” symptoms…  I told him to get away from the computer, lay down and relax a bit…  I suspect he is all worked up about his final exam grades that will be posted tonight at “midnight mountain time”.

John was able to start prepare for our trip to Lincoln City this weekend.  He took down the ham radio antenna on back, started up the engine and made sure everything sounded good and no leaks.  So far so good…  Last trip we took with the MoHo was when we drove into town last November – so it is good that we are finally getting it out on the road.

Been talking to coworkers about going to Lincoln City and they say it will be very busy this weekend.  There will be lots of traffic on the way there – probably stop and go in spots.  The beach will have lots of people doing fireworks and partying.  Large fireworks are illegal in Oregon, but can easily be purchased in Washington state.  My plan for the weekend is to relax, enjoy the nice weather, explore the town and beach area and just “go with the flow”.

Our plan is for me to get out of work around 2:00pm.  John will meet me in the parking lot with the MoHo all set to go.  John gives me grief about him doing most of the work of getting the MoHo ready to go – but he would not have it any other way.  I will make sure to get laundry done tomorrow night, and will get inside stuff stowed away.  Will be the first trip with John’s large computer monitor and the Kuerig coffee machine – so will have to be careful with them…

Anyway… plan to get on the road at 2:00pm.  Going to head down to Salem, OR and then head west on State Road 18 to the coast… Hope to arrive by 5:00pm… That’s the plan… will be interesting to see how it actually works out…

Not much else going on…  going to do some more computer stuff yet tonight, watch TV and relax before heading to bed….
